I have a screw hole in my wooden stock that is stripped . Its for a savage trigger guard so the repair wont be seen.
Whats a good material /method for filling in the hole and rethreading in the original wood screw again ?
Thanks

I usually fill the old hole with a wooden plug glued in, then pilot drill and replace the screw.
Use similar wood for the plug.

You said Savage so I'm guessing you want to repair and shoot.
if this was an antique piece I would leave it alone.

Do not use matches toothpicks or anything of that like. It's amateurish, and demonstrates poor quality of workmanship, have some pride in your tools.

like others have said. Drill out the hold slightly bigger, get a piece of dowel the correct size, and glue it in. let it dry, place the trigger guard over it, and center punch through the guard screw hole, drill a new hole in the dowel slightly bigger than the Minor Dia of the screw. and you should be good.
