Stripping 10.22 receiver paint

I did mine with the silver brush wheel on a rotary tool, used wheel polish to protect the finish once it was buffed up

Best thing for stripping is aluminum aircraft cleaner from the autoparts store...but wear HEAVY RUBBER GLOVES as it will burn the heck out of your skin.

WARNING...Ruger has just started making some parts (like the trigger housing and barrel band) out of high impact plastic instead of steel. which cannot be painted or color striped.

I stripped mine, and just left it as bare aluminum. It hasn't oxidized at all, and still looks the same as it did 4 years ago when I stripped it.

I used PolyStrippa gel and a steel brush... took a while, but it beats paying for a 'stainless' receiver!

There's no point stripping it all off if you're just going to paint it anyway. Scuff it with 400 grit sandpaper or a red scuff pad, degrease, and paint.

If you want bare aluminum for the polished or stainless look, then you'll need a stripper. I used polystripper (sp?) on mine. It worked fine. Takes a bit of elbow grease though.

I've blasted them, then used a spray on finish. Clear for the silver look. The blasting gives a bit of tooth to help the finish bond.

I used "Circa 1850" Furniture Stripper from Home Depot, rubber gloves, and some scouring pads, worked alright--and I wasn't afraid of the stripper eating my face.;)

I think engine paint would work fine...but I've never seen engine paint that actually looks like "aluminum", just "silver".

What would you use for taking the clear coat off of the stainless model "I know the receiver is aluminum :D"

I was maybe interested in removing that finish as it has a couple scratches and polishing it to a mirror finish.
