I have got a kimber montana ordered and already before it has arrived I'm already thinking of options for giving the stock a face lift. What i'm wondering is if anyone knows what the BARE stock looks like with the paint removed. I enjoy the simple look of black carbon fiber, does the stock have a somewhat decent carbon fiber layout under the paint? If you have pics that would be phenomenal. Also, is there a specific method that would be used to strip a carbon fiber stock? I have done it to almost every one of my wood stocked guns but never a synthetic.

Nobody ever stripped a Montana stock? I'm interested as well as I have a Montana that I would like to strip the previous owners paint job without harming the fiberglass underneath.

Assuming it is epoxy, stripper will attack it. Just get it off as soon as it's dissolved the paint. I am sure it will not be the nice CF look you are after. If it was then it wouldn't have been painted.

Ian, since you probably have experience with this, any recommendation on a suitable stripper that would not be too aggressive? Fiberglass specific stripper for automotive/boat application perhaps?

I think they are all about the same, methylene chloride. The paint may be epoxy or urethane as well. Do a small test where it won't be noticed and see what happens in 5 min or so. It takes a while to attack epoxy but when the stripper dries the surface should harden back up.

What about acetone? I use it to remove adhesive on carbon arrows before applying new fletching, it seems to not break down the carbon epoxy. I know it eats away at most plastics and paints, may work?
