Stripping an AR-10/15 lower

Hey gang, I'm trying to strip a lower I have all but one piece off, the Bolt Catch, that pin is a b$€*}, I taped it off to stop damage and scuffing, any tips on how to remove it, with general tools a mechanic might have, I do not have many special tools to use for gun smithing and I do not know any gun smith's locally

I have to of these in my tool bin at all times, they are a little fragile and can break. A must-have for any AR15 wrench monkey.

Thanks, I didn't wanna think if buying one, but guess I have to now, dang, it's partially out, but not far, how would you take the hammer pin out? Its mostly out, just in one side flush with the body

The hammer pin is retailed by a spring leg on one of the grooves on the pin itself. Use a brass punch of the right diameter and tap it out in either direction, it will move with a light whack.

The PA ones are junk.

Lyman makes a really nice set that I much prefer to the PA stuff, which I've found to be over-hardened and prone to snapping. Also, for the bolt catch in particular, you either need a bent punch or a relieved one like the Brownells part or you will scuff the receiver. There's not enough clearance for a typical unmodified roll pin punch.

For some tools, the PA crap is fine and I do use it. But not for precision tools or good gun plumbing tools. Buy once, cry once.
 
I agree I have a log splitter from princess auto, took it on the plane and cargoed it, the cost of it, they said out of area, no warranty, it literally broke the first log, a welder, axe and a oxyacetylene torch later the mortgage works, but the unit takes about 15 liters of oil to grease it a season lot

And the punches I have some crappie tire ones I can modify, but no grinder hahaha
