Just Wondering If anyone has stripped and refinished a Russian SKS Stock. I just ordered a Russian SKS from SIR and im not to fond of the colour of the wood, so i was thinking about stripping it and staining it darker. Anyone hass any good tips? Its my first time attempting to do this, Looks easy tho to do

Well I would strip it and would Refinish with double boiled linseed oil.
Sure it takes forever to do but it will re hydrate the wood and pervent it from drying out and cracking.
Also Linseed helps strengthen the wood when it is fully dry.
Just remember to be patient and watch for drips and keep applying until the wood soaks it all up.
Then with your final coat use a ultra fine water sand paper with the oil and lighty sand with the oil. Wipe off all of the oil with a cloth after sanding and let dry.

Once your done that put one more very light coat one the stock and let dry for a week.
Remember when Applying Linseed use you bare hand and not a cloth "to prevent lint" You can use gloves but single and double boiled linseed are not toxic.

personally ... if the wood is the original arctic birch hardwood , i wouldnt mess with it .

you may even like it once you have it in your hot hands.:D
