Hello everyone,

I am having trouble removing a SKS mag release pin from the trigger group so I can try a new one I got. I pound pretty hard on it from either side and it is not budging. Any suggestions?

I have an old set of punches that i was able to get mine going with. it took maybe 20 good whacks with a mallet. i tried to de-shroom it a bit and then put some lithium grease on it before putting it back in and it has been a lot easier to get it going when i needed to.

Be careful to examine the pin on both sides to try to find mushrooming to try to identify which side was originally set in if possible

The two rails on either side can collapse and lose hole alignment if you just bash away from one side.
That'll jam up the pin for sure.
Stuff a small socket or other solid object in between the rails to provide support as you beat the crap out of the pin.

I used a hockey puck with a hole in it to support it and a piece of keytock built up to fit between the rails with electrical tape. Worked on a block of wood over concrete. Also held the mag release back with a zip tie to relieve spring pressure. Tough the first time, comes out easier if you do it a second time.

Well I got the pin out. Between a socket holding the mag release rails apart, picking the right pin side to hammer, and WD40 to loosen things. I got it out. Thanks for the advice. Take care.
