Dropped by Lefty Dicks for the annual deer season foray. After the normal awesome home cooking ( thanks Mrs D ) the generous application of after hunting libations and the evenings of good tales from previous seasons, we even found time to do a little hunting.
On the evening of the fifth day, after spending two days in the new blind location, this guy showed up.

The weather had just shifted at 2:00, from warm and overcast to temp dropping rapidly and snowing. I knew things were going to improve. At 4:00 he stepped out, had a quick look around and then proceeded to try and cross the opening @ 80 yds. Bad mistake, I like 'em close enough, dumb enough and long enough. Managed to go 60 yards with no heart, no lungs and a busted left front wheel. I LIKE Partitions.... (.277",130 gr @ 3200 fps - 270 win) Magnum.........we dont need no magnum, no wsm, no guchi whatever. Shoot straight...things drop dead.

270Dave, that is one awesome buck, congradulations. Nice pictures too, tastefully done and you were even visited by snow fairies. Ruger #1, .270 - naww, no magnum needed.

thnx...Been the same old gun for over 20 years, bears, elk, deer, moose and caribou.
Lefty was the cam operator, I think he's has some practise over the years. BTW...Like your style...to the point and move on....

Good job Dave! My Inlaw's rented a place at Bluffton for awhile and always had the deer grazing in their yard! Went shed hunting ons spring and found a little three point, and my first moose antler. It's a neat area.

Nugget sure loves his 270 too. Cool to see you've had the same gun for all those years. Keep it rollin!

Nothing wrong with that buck! Good job! I wish there were more whitetail oportunities in the south half of the province though.
Scott N: what do you mean by more opportunities? more deer, more big deer, or just more places to hunt?

Thanks all, it truly was a great season. Times spent outdoors with good friends and family are the way to enjoy life. The weather change and the snow was just what we needed. Totally differant from last year when temps were +15 degrees and things were really slow. My son missed an awesome buck on sat am at 150 yds.... it was -28 and he and his girl had been on an open stand for an hour and a half, I'll give him credit for either being as stubborn as his old man or just as crazy !! or maybe both. Same area and same deer for the last two years...bad news is he's going to be even smarter next year. That's what makes it interesting and challenging. And more offhand practise at the range for him !!!

Your son and his girlfriend would make darn fine hunting partners. To be stand hunting in those temps takes real determination!!! In Edson here, its supposed to be -26 tomorrow and i am contemplating looking for a mulie. Definitley won't be still hunting for very long though if i do go out!!!:D

......................awesome buck by the way!!:dancingbanana:

Yea, even though they had enough clothes on for two michelin men it took a while to thaw them out when they got back into the truck :) He had slipped his gloves off to shoot and I'm not sure if it was the cold bbl or the fact he was touching it when he fired but he managed to "burn" his thumb and three finger tips. Has a beauty of a blister on his thumb and some pretty tender fingee's! I've been out in cold weather where the brass will not eject after the shot, the ejector just peeled back the rim but never have I "burnt" my fingers. Anybody else seen this before?
