Stuck cases

Today, a buddy brought me 2, 270 dies with cases stuck in them. One RCBS, one Lee. I already told him to lube his cases more, but that's not my issue. My issue is, he took the dies to a friend.....supposedly a heavy equipment mechanic, to get them out. The friend removed the decapping/sizing pin jam nut, and then proceeded to try and pry/rip/tear the pin out with a pair of visegrips. Of course he broke off the decapping pin and bent the hell out of the shaft...then wouldn't touch the other die since he knew he killed the first one and didn't get anywhere.

IF YOU GET A CASE STUCK IN A LEE FULL LENGTH SIZING DIE........

Remove the top nut. Tap the decapping rod down until the case comes out. Pull the decapping rod as close to the neck of the case as you can. Cut the head off the case. Let the rod fall out the bottom. DONE !!!!

I just hate seeing people destroy their reloading equipment because they can't stand back and look at a problem....understand whats going on, and take a few logical steps to fix it.

I did that passing my very first case through a Lee FL sizer. I was using the Auto-Prime shellholders and wondering how the hell to hook it on the the press. I was oblivious that the one in the three-die set was the one that went on the press.

I'm telling you, that Lee die is genious.

Blacksmith: I don't recommend your solution as a regular way to remove stuck cases - it works but it can bend the decapping rod (trust me I did this when I was new to reloading) the bend will be slight and not necessarily apparent to the naked eye but as a major re-sizing action occurs when the sizer button is pulled through the neck it can affect accuracy. I recommend that a stuck case remover be used - I use the RCBS one and it works very well and is inexpensive. You loosen the retaining nut for the decapping rod and let it fall to neck. You can either insert the die upside down in the press (the way I do it or put it in a wood vise to prevent damage to the die. Drill out the primer pocket with provided drill bit and then tap the hole with provide tap and then screw out the case with provided allen wrench/screw/screw holder.
