Stumbled on this Humpback……

Serial # says 1924 -16GA Mod choke, kinda like it but know less than zero about these, $1200 seemed like a not unreasonable ask, am I into short shell reloading with this rig, gonna lay eyes on it this week.

Nice shape but too bad it's a plain barrel. That's way too much $ for a plain barrel imo, 16ga or not.

Check for cracks in the forestock. I've had 2 12 gauge and one was cracked. No repair held it together. Sold them both.

You got good advice over on Shotguworld. This gun is much newer than 1924. If we had the serial number including any prefix, we could clarify the date. Auto-5 16 gauge serial numbers are somewhat complex.
The NRA serialization table is the best online reference.
"Browning Auto-5 Shotguns, The Belgian FN Production" by Shirley and Vanderlinden is the ultimate reference book.

That gun is showing all of the signs of being 2 3/4" chambered no need for short shells.
