Stupid lightweight rifles...

The weather was gorgeous this past weekend in northern Alberta so I headed to the range to do a bit of shooting. The first pic is of a Rem. 721 .270 that I had Corlanes do some work to. I recently got it back and wanted to try some 130 grain bullets in it. Had a box of .277 130 gr. Speer Hot-Cors on the shelf, so off I went. Below is a 12 shot - 200 meter group with powder charges from 57-60 grs. of H4831. Group size is 2.3 inches...downright ghastly ;).

Next up, although not a real lightweight rifle, I was playing with an M70 Extreme Weather .30-06 with 168 gr. TSXs. 6 shot group at 200 meters measured right on 3 inches. This is a good representation of what this rifle will currently do with TSXs...sometimes groups are considerably smaller but this is about average. This rifle is pretty well bone stock. I will likely bed it pretty soon but the re-occuring though of getting a new stock for it has kept me from doing that so far.

Enjoy the pics.

Very nice. I sometimes shy away from lightweight rifles, mostly due to increased recoil, partly due to their sometimes mediocre accuracy.
Thanks for the education. How do you find the recoil from these rifles? I shoot an A-Bolt in .280 Rem that's about 7 lbs unscoped. I has shot a couple 10-shot groups a bit under 2 inches, and it's about as much recoil as I am comfortable with, say to shoot 30 or so rounds in an hour.

Hey, what's the weight of the rifles?

Haven't actually put them on a scale. The .270 is quite light though. The stock blank (Wildcat) weighed 18 ounces before bedding/recoil pad/paint. Factory barrel was turned down some, and bottom metal is PTG aluminum.

The M70 sure feels sub 8 lbs to me.

Maybe I'll get them on a scale tonite...
