Stupid question about FFP

The answer to this is probably stupidly obvious, but I'm just not sure about it. I have a vortex PST 6-24x FFP scope. If I am at maximum magnification, shooting at 500 yards and release a shot that I measure to be 2 mils low with the reticle, do I adjust 2 mils up on the turret? I ran into this situation today, and 2 mils (20 clicks) on the turret seemed like too much distance for what I was seeing through the scope. Maybe it was just me, or maybe I'm missing something.

Nope, two mills will be two mills.Accuracy of the scope being the only worry.

That is the beauty of FFP.

You can reverse the equation and see if your click amount equate the actual correction.

Sounds like 36" correction to me if that is what the reticle is calibrated to, which I assume it is.

1 click should be .36" @ 100 yards , 20 being 7.2 @ 100 X 5 =36"

Nice thing about FFP is that your POI shouldn't change when adjusting your magnification. At least that is what I am led to believe.

^^^^ as KT said all measurements in FFP are correct regardless of range / mag .. If you measure with retical 2mills up/down/left/right at 50 or 500. It's 2mills dialled in to the scope

JT, if your scope is SFP, and your aiming centre of cross hair and you dial in/ out and your POI changes something is wrong with your scope . The only time a SPF scope should move poi when dialled in / out is if your using a part of the retical other then dead centre to aim

Correct me if I'm wrong but with a FFP scope the reticle grow larger as you move up in magnification, the precision is not affected by that?

it depends what your trying to do with the scope, in bench rest style of shooting, SFP will be the better choice, allowing for a finer point of aim, under any magnification, in the more dynamic style of shooting where a hit is a hit and thats all the matters, FFP is generally considered to be better as all messurments for wind and elevation holds are the same at any mag.

With the new FFP scopes coming out now I would say FFP for just about everything as they have the reticule sizes figured out. The old ones would zoom out and be too large for long range but the newer ones seem to have this figured out. But, if you are trying to just take the wings off of flies at unreasonable distances then SFP is the way to go.

Obviously with SFP, magnification setting only matters when your compensating with the reticle ? with SFP , Magnification setting has no effect on POI when dialing with your turret ?

Correct on a SFP scope , the retical is only true at one magnification level , let's say 10x is true mil/Moa measurements, at 15x the measurements are now 3/4 mil/Moa, at 20x they are 1/2 . At 5x it's 1.5mil/Moa .. So lots of math involved .. This is assuming that those magnification marks on the mag ring are 100% accurate

With both SFP and FFP , if your useing the exact center of the x-hair to aim and you zoom in /out. The POI, should still be the exact center . If your zero at 100m, and you dial up 1mil on the turret the POI. On target will be 1mil high of POA. But on a SFP scope it will only measure 1mil on the retical at a givin mag setting . Of FFP it will measure 1 mil threw the whole range of magnification

I just newbed out there for a minute , been awhile since I thought about it ... I always dial

This is going to matter to me now though , I bought the new NXS compact 2.5-10x42 with side parallax and zero stop for hunting and im sure ill be making "heat of the moment " shots at 300 yards with my reticle. Ill be sure to watch what power setting im on
