All,

Going to buy a shotgun for some extended camping/hunting trips next year (primarily bear defense). Can either the Mossberg 590a1 or the rem 870 police mag tubes reduced to hold 2 shells as per the regs in BC? I don't want to run afoul of the CO's, and I might want to occasionally use this gun to shoot hares.

Thanks.

When using it for bear defense, no pug is needed. When you go hunt it needs a plug. Most of them are just plastic rods or wooden dowels. I used a pencil in one shotgun. :)

What Gatehouse said, also if you have it loaded with slugs even if you are hunting you legally don't need a plug. Shot is only limited to 2+1, if hunting with any type of shot in BC you need to plug it. Single progectiles aka slugs and you can load the tube as full as it can take if it's a pump action, or 5 if it's a semi.

So if you don't want to make a plug, which is simple. Just load it with slugs, which is what I'd use if I was worried about bears anyway.

Just make sure you can actually take a shotgun into some areas. A LOT of places have "phobias" a.k.a. gun bans even for unrestricted firearms (total bullsh!t) for bear defense. A totally legitimate reason to have a shotgun or .375 H&H or some other bear stopper but yeah..... pesky bureaucrats.
