stupid question - single/double stack

Hi, I know it is a stupid question, but can you please explain the difference between single stack and double stack?

Single-skinny mag one round over the other, double- offset slightly, one right, one left and so on.

The theory behind the single/double stack, is that, by offsetting the rounds, you can fit more rounds inside the mag.(It works if you don't live in Canada or any other 10 round limit area). I have a double stack Para and I had to "re-learn" how to grip a gun, when I got it.

Ya sorry about that (double)lateral displacement is increased to allow more ammo to be placed in the mag without changing the length of the mag. So you get a fat grip with a double.
