I hunted deer, moose, and bear very sucessfully with a Winchester 88 in .308 for my first 20 years. About 5 years ago I fell while getting out of the boat during moose season. I snapped the stock o the 88 in 2.
The gunsmith put old humty together again, just not in time for deer season. I bought a savage 111 in .300 winmag and topped it with a Nikon prostrate 3x9x40.
Put a Boyd's stock on the 88, and figured I'd be good to go.
Here's my demented issue: both guns work great and are fun to shoot (been using the 300 exclusively since purchased. I really miss hunting with the 88, but I have this nagging feeling that I'm going to break it again.
So, am I being stupid, and shod i dad off the 88, or should I retire it, enjoy the memories, and stick with the .300?

Rejig your rifles scope up the 300 and move that little 3x9 to the 88
use the 88 as a 200 yard and under and the 300 for a 200-500 yard
different tool different job

Yeah, It's a great gun. Why write it off, or retire it? Like xeon says. You break it again. Which is unlikely. Get another stock!!!!

Whenever I go hunting, I pack two rifles. One is the one I intend to use. The other has iron sights and is the one I use if there is heavy snow falling, pissing rain or to lend to Bubba who brought the wrong caliber ammo for his rifle.

The longest kill shot I ever saw was a measured 425 yards on a moose. Taken with a M88 with iron sights.

If you like your M88, make it your back up rifle.
