Stupid Question

Why do some picatiny rails have a space down the middle? Like the BC tactical VZ58 rail. Most picatinny rails don't look like this.

I always assumed it was to save weight.

If you have a scope mounted you can still use the iron sights by looking under the scope along the space on the rail

Irons don't work with a scope on those.

I would imagine it is to use your iron sights if for some reason you are not able to use your red dot/ scope. pull your optics off and the irons are usable.

The rail isn't tall enough to obstruct the irons.

Maybe I misunderstood the original question, but I have three rifles with the rails and scopes and I can use the iron sights on all three by looking under the scope along the groove in the middle of the rail
