I'm just gonna complain out-loud 'cause my wife is sick of me complaining. How many of the rest of you guys have had a trip all planned and ready, when you get sick? or worse yet hurt at work. I've been getting ready for my first turkey hunt ever, (ya'll been a tremendous help), when POP! I blew my damn knee out at work, I've spent the last 5 days on the couch with ice on my leg to get the swelling down and avoid tendon damage. I'm mobile now, weekend's done and over, back to work and some physio and now I'm reading some of your stories about your turkey hunts and I'm dang jealous. I'm really happy for guys who've gotten out and bagged a bird thou, good job and great hunting.
Victoria's Day=Spring Black Bear or Bust!!!

What are some of the best "why I missed a trip stories"

Sorry to hear that Hannibal! Well if you live in Ontario you have until the end of May to get out & get that bird :) . Sure hope you get back in shape quickly.

shattered my left ankle in august of 01, ended up shooting three deer and my black bear while on crutches. Quite a few people got some goods laughs over it but seeing how I got the truck and they needed a ride I didn't have to drag anything that year. Now again this year damaged the same ankle injury and have been off work for three months. I had the ankle fused in 2004 and the most recent bone scan shows that the joint is full of arthritis. I can hunt okay alright just cannot work right now.

I did a very similar thing my first year... I got somethign called Cellulitis very bad in my leg, and couldnt walk for close to 6 weeks... I missed opener of trout, and Turkey... I got to hunt turkey close to the end of the season, but the season was a wash...

Sorry to hear it, but I know what your going through...
Give it a week or two, you might be able to give her...

seeing as how you can't make it out you may as well let someone else hunt where you were planning to set up.so where was it again:p

hey man i know how you feel,
not this past bear season but the previous one i booked off the time for 2 weeks of bear for the fall 2006 bear hunt scouted and primed a gorgeous peice of crown land then had an accident at work which killed my initial hunt p[lans as i was no longer physicaly able to get int oand out of my spot, so i ended up using my fall back spot which was/is already overpresured for bear and i couldnt go to far away from my jeep so my success was cut to nil.
maybe next fall i will find someone with some property in the bear zone i can use

Turns out I have "housemaids knee" with abit of tendonitis thrown in for good measure, talk about something small stopping a dude. One of those conditions if ya don't heal up good now you suffer in the long run. How's that for stupid? I was really hoping to read more stories about busted up dudes with bigger, uh .. bals than me getting out there when they should have been at home.

I am jealus that that is all you have, the results of my bone scan just proved that the two bones in my ankle did not fuse togeather like they were suppost to. Now if they repeat the procedure a second time it means yet another six months non weight bearing and on crutches, that will put the calendar into the middle of January of next year. I sometimes cry myself to sleep, this lattest batch of bab news was delivered yesterday morning at the surgeons office. He is a little bewildered however that I have not managed to break the screw in the last three years as there is no strength in the screw, it just holds the bones togeather until the two bones fuse togeather.
