Subsonic 22LR ammo - any point to hollowpoint?

I've been wondering on this for a while - couldn't find the answers I wanted, either my search-fu sucks or I did something wrong.

I use CCI Quiet-22 ammo extensively. What I have is the 40gr LRN variety. Advertised to travel at 710fps, chrono results say it's pretty close to that, sometimes above, sometimes below (of course). I like it because, well, it's quiet and still can nail the squirrels pretty good. I understand there is also a HP variety of it around, though I've not been able to find it. Standard thinking is that hollowpoint would be more effective.

But as I understand it, a hollowpoint bullet of any design is predicated upon said bullet having the velocity to effect that expansion. I'm not convinced that 710fps is enough to meaningfully expand a 40gr lead HP 22lr bullet travelling at 710fps.

Thoughts?

I would think the same as you as far as it expanding. A side by side comparison on wet telephone books would tell. If anything the hp acts the same as the solid and as long as you are not paying more for hp.......

I had some of the quiet segmented. It went into 3ish pieces most of the time.
It does break up as intended. I found it less accurate (larger grouping) and much different poi, even at really close range.
I recall it was about $9 a pack of 50 vs $5 for the round nose version.

I have used CCI quiet segmented hollows for some time and they expand/segment perfectly, in soap bars AND squirrels at about 25 yards or so, all I have left are the round noses, wish I had kept a few so I could show the pics.

I wonder about this too, my heavy barrel loves CCI SV, and I lucked out and found some CCI subsonic HP's, the shoot the same POI as SV, find them much flatter shooting than the quiets. However the CCI SGB's I'm told are fantastic and are flat nose. I've had great results on possums and raccoons with quiets. So I often wonder at what point of game size is a HP makes 22lr more deadly? Most of my large quantities of bulk ammo in my stock are HPs partly because it makes sense on paper. Love to see some real world testing. Mini mag HPs vs non, quiets, shorts, etc
