Subsonic testing

Going to pic up the Remington and maybe eley today if my local gun shop has it,what can I use other than ballistic jel as a testing medium(never made it) if there's nothing else I guess I could but I'd rather not

I use the CCI, the ones that are in the 800 fps range. They come in shorts and longs, I prefer the longs for the sake of the rifle.
I find too many shorts down the pipe the gun gets a foul ring where the bullet leaves the casing, resulting in poor extraction of longs down the road without cleaning.

I'd be interested in seeing the CCI Quiet-22, and CCI Quiet-22 Segmented. I have a bit of both, but have never tried the Segmented. I do some pigeon clearing from barns in the winter for some farmer friends of mine, and do know that unless it's a head shot, rarely will a CCI Quiet (the solid) do the job instantly. I have higher hopes for the Segmented, but also have a hard time imagining it will open-up well moving that slow. Would LOVE to see if it does.

The cooey shoots everything! I love my grandfathers. Im happy you are testing a bolt action. Would be nice to test a stock 10/22 also.
Would be interesting to see the loss of speed because of the blowback semi auto.

I know the Eleys and rem subs will zip through a 1/4" Pine board at 100 yards like nothing. I believe I saw a test where CCI mini mags could punch 11" into ballistic gel at 300 yards.

If you can get Winchester subsonic in Canada... I used a lot of it in NZ through my (then) suppressed 10-22. That ammo was produced in Australia. Lots of bunnies and possoms.. And, the rifle cycled very well. They're hollow point copper-washed lead bullets.

I love this stuff! I quit bringing a pellet gun because of it and now have a Savage Rascal I carry.

I use the CCI Quiet-22s extensively, and would love to know if others experience the same variability in group sizes depending on temperature. When I was out shooting on a chilly morning, the target looked like a damned shotgun was fired at it. But when the day heated up and got near 30C, I was hitting the bullseye 9 out of 10 times.
