I'd picked up an interesting single shot shotgun not too long ago, finally got it out to the range for testing. It appears that the gun was made using left over Enfield rifled musket parts. Its definately not a sported, smoothbored rifle, but the parts are Enfield style; even uses a steel ramrod and large nipple. I suppose that after the Enfield muzzleloader and Snider breechloader went out of production there were a lot of unfinished parts left over. Marked JC Bond 16g on the bottom of the barrel, 17 between the proofs on the top. Cylinder bore, of course. With 1 oz. of 6s and an equal volume of 2Fg it patterns quite well.

I have a had a couple of these, one just had the reifling removed to make a about a 22 gauge and was just a plain sporter made by cutting down a enfield muzzle loader using 1 barrel band. The other one had the bore finished in a 17 bore with a barrel wedge to hold the barrel in the forend plus was engraved but still used the enfield stock. There were made from surplus enfields that were not converted to sniders and mostly sold in the colinies. The better one I had was marked WC Scott inside the lock
