ok so this is the final step for me. You guys have helped me pick out most of this gun package so why not one more question on rings and bases. So Far I've got a deposit on a Savage 14 American Classic in 22-250 (picking up sept 14 2009) and I'm putting a Elite 4200 6-24X40 on it. Now I need sudgestions on rings and bases. I will admit that I know nothing about rings and bases. I don't know what makes good ones and bad ones. Can someone sudgest some good rings and bases

Picatinny is a military specification of a base that is similar to weaver in the way the rings clamp to the outside dimensions of it and it retained front and rear movement by way of a cross bar. It has multiple slots to allow positioning of the rings in various location. Weaver rings fit on picatinny bases, but picatinny rings don't all fit weaver bases (or perhaps none). There's many makers of picatinny bases, and several for Savages. Its a very solid platform for the rings. They make them in steel and aluminum and also flat or 20 degree elevation.
I would have to agree on this setup.
I had a Savage Model 12 and put this exact setup on it.
If your Savage is a mag fed rifle, Farrel has one made especially for that as opposed to the type he makes for a single shot Savage.
I've spoke to the lady at Farrel and she knows her stuff.
Very helpful company with excellent bases.
The Burris rings with inserts are my favourites.
