Hi guys, I’m looking to buy a modern designed 7.62*39 rifle. Budges is under 1500 CAD. Any suggestions?
I was looking at WK181-c but seems out of stock everywhere. Is type 81 a reliable one? But I don’t like the wood stock. I prefer something metal.

Give it a month and they will be everywhere. There was concern last month if they would sell so dealers did a presale. Meaning, they are cautious.

T81 folding stock version is actually a pretty decent gun. I'd take one of those over the relatively unproven WK181. T81's last round BHO more than offsets any WK181 advantages in optic mounting options.

I will preface by saying I have not actually handled a T81 folder. However I have never found a side folding stock to be of any benefit. All they do is make the rifle way wider along with compromising the cheek weld. Any benefit of shortening the rifle is completely negated by the doubling of the width, which makes it impossible to fit into any carry bag to case. I specifically chose the fixed stock for these reasons.

However to each their own.

Find one, buy it and enjoy! The folder is an awesome choice, stock is narrow and gun folds up nice.

I would like to know the weight difference between an oem folder and one that has been converted.

Honestly you could get any Type 81sa excluding the SR and have a solid chance in short time to modernize it using Sigmaco stuff. VZ 58 grips and AK mags also fit with very little modification. There's also decent optic and safety options floating around out there as well. The SR could be a candidate as well in the future.

1500 could also trick out an SKS into something fairly modern and good as well. An SKS, sage international stock and drill/tap side mount, Specter Ballistics release and detachable mags would be a real contender.

Type 81 fixed stock and trick it out with Sigmaco stuff or SKS in Archangel or Feb defense stock. Never seen a Sage stock in Canada.

Bolt gun, look at a howa mini action. Very accurate and light handy rifle.

Just bought the Howa 1500 Mini Action in 7.62x39mm, heavy 20" barrel. I had the first shooting three days ago. At 100 yards, I managed 0.5" groupings from 3 shot strings, on two occasions, using Norinco red box ammo! I couldn't believe my eyes. I'll try more when the weather improves. I love that rifle.

If you want accuracy, the the CZ527 is the way to go. In a perfect world - which Kanada is far from - we would be discussing the appropriate AK's, VZ's and Galil's. In this craphole, we are forced to discuss SKS's and WK's.

Pfff

Discontinued. I guess CZ did not see Canada's gun laws coming. CZ600 is on hold because of safety issues. And too expensive.

Now try to hunt for a Ruger Ranch, Savage Scout or Howa 1500 mini.

Pretty sure our importers placed large orders now on those.
