Looking for a New & Non-Restricted rifle for sport shooting and 3Guns in cal 7.62 mm NATO. Would love an AR-10 build but don't want a creature restricted to shooting ranges.

Any suggestion from those who walked that road already?
What did you get and what do you wish you should have got instead?

Thanking you in advance

Must be referring to the Modern Hunter. It could be.

Yessir, about as AR10 as you can get and stay non-res. The Famae 540 is a bit cheaper then the ATRS but pretty mediocre quality for the little bit of price difference, and mags are $120.
Other then that there are the Nork and Springer M14's....options are kind of limited for .308.

He only ones that I can think of would be the plentiful M305 (possible dressed up with the Blackfeather stock), the Browning Hog Stalker (FNAR in Browning brand), and maybe the RFB if you find a deal on the EE. Otherwise, you're looking at some serious cash ... But then again it depends on your budget.

Keltec may be releasing some new stuff within the next year.

Your feedback does confirm the limited choices available.

My heart and logic tells me the MH (ATRS) is right the way to go. With extra effort$, it does provide the sportster I'm looking for, plus as a bonus, a sub MOA hunting rifle. But I choke and stall on the price.

M14/M305 Would be my choice in a shorty version for 3guns purposes. You can get them from 500$ to whatever people want for them on EE, easily modified to obtain decent accuracy but since you mentionned 3guns, you don`t really need sub-moa. I had a regular M305 and was able to have fun from 0 to 600m. Magazines are easy to come by as well as parts for it.

XCR-M is a nice fiream, but on the expensive side...

But I'm glad I have a ''impulsive buyer/seller'' friend that bought a full price Browning BAR ShorTrac Hog Stalker and was kind enough to sell it to me for a flat 1K because it didn't meet ''his need'' of a bolt action results accuracy in a semi-auto. The rifle does sub-moa 100m to 300m, very compact, under 10 pounds (before optic). Magazines are a ##### to find, so it might be complicated for a 3guns application. I got 4 in the deal, even if I only use this rifle for hunting

XCR-M rolls at about $3200 to $3400. If I decide to spend the money, it is absolutely clear in my mind I will spend the additional $ for the quantum leap in quality and accuracy the MH provides.

Agreed that 3guns (and CQB) do not require sub-MOA. For that a M305 is an alternative worth considering should I decide not to go for new.

The idea of an highly accurate multi purpose rifle keeps growing on me...

Mine was very accurate with factory loaded 180gr nosler partitions. I posted targets long ago. cold hold 1 moa for the first 3 shots then opened up to 1.5 moa for the rest.

for hunting the accuracy of the first 1 or 2 shots should be all you need anyways. It being so compact is also a big bonus depending where/how you hunt.
