suggestions: a good scope for 597 22wmr

I have a Rem 597 in 22wmr but currently have a Tasco 22mag 3-9x32 on it. I want to upgrade the scope but don't know what to put on it. Anybody have a suggestion, possibly a Bushnell Trophy with a 3-9x40????
I would really like to get something with a mil dot reticle if possible.

Oh by the way.....I had some slight problems with my 597 regarding FTF, jams, etc. One of the reasons was because it is so darn cold around here (-45 c). I striped it down and cleaned it all out, sanded the mag followers slightly, and loosened the bold guide rail screws. Went out shooting the other day (about -25 *C) and not a problem. Shoots like a dream! Really starting to like this little gun!!!! (another good reason to upgrade the scope)

By the way, if I buy the 40mm scope I assume I'll need medium height rings?
(I use the weaver style rail screwed to the top of the receiver)

I have the same rifle with a Bushnell Trophy 3-9x40mm mounted on it. I've been using it since 1999 and haven't found any reason to change. Mine's mounted in Leupold low QRW rings on the weaver base.
 
I have a Leupold VX-II 4-12x 40mm w/adjustable objective scope on mine:

Medium rings on the VQ scope mount (but could have probably gone with 'low').

I would strongly suggest going to a 2.5-10 or 4-12 if you are going to upgrade.

On that note, I just figured EXACTLY what scope I'd put on that gun! The Leupold M4 clone at 1337 tactical .com. I bought one for my HMR...2.5-10, 30 mm tube, non-illuminated mil-dot reticle, and every bit as clear as my VX1 and 2's. Seriously, I really don't think you can do better for the money for a rimfire. I would probably think twice about mounting one on my 375, but fior the rimfires? You really cant go wrong. If you buy one and don't like it? Sell it to me :) I was going to order another for my .22 build anyway.
