Suggestions for 9mm 1911

The Sam just might be what i'am looking for. The price is nice and it will tide me over until I decide to start reloading my own ammo and move up to a .45 caliber of sorts.

Thanks for all the info!

Yes, it's supposed to be. Maybe someone with first hand knowledge will chime in... there really isn't many reviews on the SAM 1911's on the forum.

it'll be compatible but you'll need someone with experience to do the swapping for you. All the parts have to have fit to the pistol so its nice and tight :) Unfortunately, its not like a glock where you can just pop out few pins.

If you can live with the external extractor the S&W 1911 in stainless is a darn nice looking gun with with well fitted parts near as I could tell from the quick counter grope. Cost is around $1000 to $1100 though.

All you guys that are suggesting getting the gun hard chromed would need to consider the cost. Chrome does add on a noticable thickness to the parts and so a well fitted slide to frame and well fitted barrel lug gooves would require work be done to give the plating process room to work. And all that adds up considerably to the cost. So while it is certainly possible to do I'd suggest that the cost makes it a less than budget minded option.

I'am wanting to stick to a 9mm 1911 I only want to shoot 9mm to keep the ammo costs down plus its the only chamber size I own for now.
What should I be looking at?
Something with a nickel or stainless type finish nothing black.

Thanks in advance!!!

Oh ya forgot to add something in a gov or com size ☺

The Kimber stainless custom ii is a good one except it might come with a bad extractor. The fit between slide and frame is very good that you can shake it without making any noise at all.

I was checking out the SAM website and what a sad excuse for a site! And I can't find any reviews on YouTube. I just like to do my homework before taking the leap. ;)

Agreed. There is little info on YouTube or on this forum. I've seen a couple reviews on the Sam 1911's. Few pics and range reports from actual SAM owners... would like to see some more before I take the plunge.

I was in the same boat criteria wise and decided that with the cost on 9mm being pretty good I'd eat a little on the cost of the gun.

Ended up getting a custom II SS and after a "break in" and a little tweak on the extractor, its awesome. I do like the look of the SAM commander though...

In USA, they are sold under the name "Century Arms".

That should help your google searching a bit.

^They are also sold under the name American Tactical Imports(ATI FX 45 is one model). Hickok45 has a video of him reviewing an ATI 1911. Also SAM make's and assemble the Iver Johnson 1911's as well.

May I ask how do you like your custom II ss? I assume it is a Kimber, am I correct?
