Suggestions for a good SKS compact scope

My SKS has killed yet another scope, all fairness to the scope, it was getting the $hit kicked out of it by flying brass (full length scope, no brass deflector).
I want a compact scope, 32 - 40mm and a fixed 4 or 6 power. I haven't had much luck with Leapers and their optics are really poor (at least on the old 32mm 3-9 vari that I had a couple of years ago). I would like a scope of similar size as a Leapers compact so I can still use stripper clips. I checked Leupold and Bushnell websites but haven't turned up anything that fits the bill. I am open for suggestions or even any positive feedback from any of the newer Leapers that Marstar is now selling.

Someone on this site was selling a case deflector for the sks. I think it's still for sale. Maybe you should look into it for your next scope purchase.

Have a scope deflector, should be renamed to a stovepipe plate. Horrible little device! I want a short compact scope so I don't have to worry about a deflector and still use strippers. With the old scope I had to feed them in one at a time, sucked!

I would think that the way the rounds eject it would hit a short scope face. I use a leapers 6x40 and it seems to work alright. I have had a lot of frusteration with the rear mount though, it is rock solid but is hard to bore sight and just generally makes life a pain. I am seriously considering a forward "scout" style setup mounted on the rear sight if I can find a well made one.

Wow, good thing I read this thread before I ordered the the cheap compact 4x scope with reciever mount on Ebay, I think Im gonna get the scout mount and use a Reddot sight instead.

Good plan.

I'd also consider going for Choate mount as it is drill and tapped into the side of the receiver, and not the wiggly removable receiver cover...which many experts agree is a large factor in perceived SKS inaccuracy.

Or better yet stick with the 7.62x39 calibrated Russian scopes, and scope mounts, and bypass all this after market Hong Kong CaRp.

I'm saving for that, and this...

I have the Choate drill and tap mount, have Weaver rings, need a good scope. Of I didn't have the receiver drilled and the mount on this rifle, I would get the scout mount myself.

Since you already have a mount, Consider a Tasco red dot a Wall Mart...cheap and durable, and no need for rings as it is meant for Weaver rails.
