hi I am new to guns. I just got my fac in the beginning of december. I bought a ruger 10/22 and a ruger mk1 pistol, but now i think i would like to get something a little bigger( more bang/more buck ) any suggestions or or recommendations. I like the ar15 style and the availiable options for it. anyways you guys fire away, let me know........

well im kinda leaning towards restricted. the 180 b is nice but there are lots of negative stories around them. i have heard they are very reliable but can be easyly broken..... i prefer the shorter barrel length also.

Depends what you want to do with it. You say that you prefer shorter barrel length, how short? I have an 11.5" AR myself that I'm quite happy with, however for an all around gun I'd go with a 16" midlength flattop with one of the 1-4x optics (I hear the Smidt and Bender is the cat's ass, but their are cheaper ones). A gun in this configuration can be used for anything from CQB type shooting to target shooting at 500m. It a good all around compromise that works fairly well in most environments.

+1

And get a complete factory rifle instead of putting one together if you are new to this; it will save you from a lot of headaches.

Questar imports RRA, TONES of configuration to choose from and the general comments have been very good. I would recommend you to take a look at that.

does anyone know if there is a 9mm conversion available for the ar180b. well to ease the cost of ammunition. or any other kits for them. like the ar 15 i know you can get a .22 lr kit or 9 mm. just exploring my options. i do like the 180b with the folding stock. just a little unsure about plastic!!!!!!

A 9mm AR will be pretty expensive to build. Mags for them are not cheap either. A .223 AR is fun, and as mentioned before the accessories your throw on it can easily end up costing as much or more then the whole gun LOL. But that's the fun part. If you want a non restricted military style rifle I would say a Sig (black or green special, maybe blue if you like the color ;)) it is a pricy gun but is great quality. Also (and don't flame me for this please, I know it is not technically a black rifle, but....it's sorta inexpensive and fun) if you want a pistol cartridge plinker maybe the beretta cx4 storm, it is available in 9mm, .40 and .45, you can get a longer barrel made for it later and make it non restricted if you chose to hunt with it.

Cheers,

Alex

ditto, AR15 without a doubt, I just got a midlength and am really happy with it.... I parted it together and built it myself just to learn everything I could about the system, and that in itself was half the fun
