Trying to decide on a Rail system.

First off trying to decided between Drop in vs Free floating.

Drop in works well for me, because i don't want to alter the gun myself (i can and have the tools, but would prefer not to). Yet Free floating has a better look to it (i know that looks arn't everything). Is there an advantage to one over the other, besides the ease of the drop in installation?

Next brands, What could be considered a good brand for a decent cost?
I have the money to buy the best, but if i'm paying for name over quality, i don't mind getting a non main stream one. So far in the Drop in designs i've seen DD (none in stock anywhere), KAC (higher cost), Samson (I think stag uses this brand of rails?)

Use would be a vert grip, and possibly a Bipod.
Mostly local comps, nothing too fancy for use.

Have a look at what we have in stock at one shot tactical.
If you don't want to do the work on your gun. Buy a rail. From us and we will do the work for you no charge

Drop-in is fine if all you want is to run some add-ons. If you are hoping to increase accuracy potential, then go FF - no question. Not a factor under 200m though IMHO.

And simply because it's you...

NEA makes an affordable rail :nest:

Mostly 100 yards, mainly because my range is only 100 yards max atm, 300 when they do upgrades and expand.

And Har Har :p

In all seriousness...

Since I know you are a vocal NEA detractor, the best "affordable" brands I have used personally include:

- YHM Diamond series FF
- Troy TRX Extreme

The Troy TRX rails in particular are very modular and ar every thin in-hand. I prefer them over the YHM.

Go with the Troy MRF series, best of both worlds, they drop in and they FF.

Installation is easy as pie no mods, or special tools either. Price is affordable and they look the s**t too!

Looks nice that's for-sure but but the MRF isn't a Drop in system, still requires altering the rifle, the DI series rails system they have is a drop in system.

As mentioned before Troy makes a great drop-in
ATRS might have some as well (Not sure on brand but I have had one and it was good piece of kit)
And as Claven said under 200m not a huge difference accuracy wise.
Some manufactureres used to state that FF also aided in cooling under heavy use but IMO I believe that would be a minimal factor/effect

There is no altering, you cut off the delta ring and it clamps over the barrel nut...

I guess we have abit of different view on altering lol.

Fair enough though it is nice, i know it would only take me 20 mins to install the rails, just something about getting a brand new rifle and start cutting on it right when i get it that seems so wrong LOL

ATRS has DD instock, good systems from what i have heard, but their price is abit higher then everywhere else ( mind you they have stock)

Oh yeah I guess that is altering.. lol

But really, it's no biggy a small dremel bit and its G2G. Just so you know that Samson rail is the same design as Troys MRF, I have no idea why or how they share the design, but they do...

Thats always the way it is it seems. LOL I guess if a guy wants it bad enough we will pay. They are a relativly small shop so I don't think they get the deep discounts that a larger dealer might get---But they do get some cool sh*t in sometimes

Lol yeah i know, I have the tools, and I am get with them, but its that OH #### moment that i slip and have a nice mark in my rifle, guess i can call it personalizing it then LOL.

The guys at ATRS are good guys, great products too, just pricey, i don't mind spending more at a smaller shop if the service is right and the product is the one i want, just seems like most everyone is suggesting a different type of rail then they carry.

You should not have to cut off the delta ring if you have a pin punch and an AR15 barrel wrench.

Remove the barrel (easy) and drif out the pins holding on the FSB. Remove the delta ring and save it in your parts bag, then re-install everything. Unless it's a Norinco, this should not be hard to do.

Those are tools I do not have in my collection, Something i might need to invest in.
