So, I want to build an nice, easy "tactical" 10/22. I'm not looking to recreate an AR-15 in .22LR calibre. Would just like a 10/22 with the following characteristics:

- Tacticool :p
- Light
- Compact (e.g. 8.5 barrel)
- Can mount an optic (picatinny rail)
- Folding skeletal stock

I've done some research and for tactical-ish stocks there are:

- Archangel
- Evolution
- FS556 Ruger from Fab
- Tapco
- Butler creek folding stock

So... looking for opinions here. With the requirements above and the identified stock replacement options. What would more experienced 10/22 dabblers suggest?

Thanks in advance!

I have only used the Butler Creek folder on my 10/22's. It's alright, the honeymoon of having it wears off really fast. The reason why I have only used the Butler Creek folder is because, it's built like a tank.

I think an 8.5 inch barrel would look awfully stubby in an archangel kit. If it was threaded for a fake suppressor however, that might have a cool look. Just need to keep the overall length in mind for legal reasons.

I have an Evolution stock. I like it, but its heavy and removing the 8 screws on the top of the foreend to remove the action is a little much. Also, I would not mount a scope for precision shooting to the front rail, I believe the action shifts around a bit, especially after removing and replacing it. Better to mount the scope to the receiver and make sure the barrel doesn't touch anything.

Where did you get your Butler Creek folder?

Anybody have any experience with ATI stocks?

Yeah.. they're garbage. I put one of my shotgun, it lasted a day of shooting before the screw broke. Though I did get a replacment screw from the factory, it will never go on my shotgun again.

You don't want an ATI stock for a shotgun, so you should be good to go.

Not to hi-jack the thread, but... I'm gonna anyway! :p

I've had 3 ATI stocks on 3 different shotguns and none of them ever gave me any sort of problem. Sure, I can't smash a door down with one but I got a shotgun, right? I'll shoot it down! :D

Anyway, just wanted to say that not all ATI stocks suck.

And so I don't get in trouble for hi-jacking the thread, I'll post a pic of my 10/22 with its ATI Dragunov styled stock. It's lightweight, looks good (to me, anyway) and it allows me to mount the scope really low. I find the AR-15 styled stocks make it impossible to mount the scope any lower than 3" to the bore (2.5" at best) and still get a good cheek weld. In MY opinion, (which counts for nothing BTW) given the .22s lousy ballistic qualities, a low mounted scope is crucial unless all you're doing is shooting paper targets at fixed ranges.

I've used the Butler Creek stock; it's not bad but I think you should get something higher end... the 556 would be what I'd buy. You could get a short Krinker, but the stock would need be welded to the open position for legality issues (unless you want to register it as restricted).
