I'm looking for a good, durable AR15 wrench? Any suggestions as to what make and where it might be available?

I have a few wrenches, but by far the best I have tried is Magpul's armorers wrench. Quality is top notch. Lots of site sponsors carry them, I purchased mine from Saskatoon Gunworks.

I have never seen the magpul, but I seriously think it's overpriced for what it is...

You might wanna take a look at the Tapco Intrafuse armorer's wrench. I got it from Brownell's when I placed my last order. It's also the highest rated/with most ratings on amazon.com

Yeah I need an old school colt wrench to take off a castle but. My standard Brownells one I have now is for the modern castle nut. Any suggestions ?

Aim sports has very poor barrel nut fit, probably too loose to work. I have one, don't recommend it. I borrowed the real McCoy armorers wrench from 25 years ago, worked like a charm. The downside is you need a separate wrench for use with buffer tube nut and free float handguard nut.

I have a Magpul and Smith wrench . No idea why the Magpul wrench is so special because it doesn't do anything appreciably better. Having said that, the Smith is not cheap either !

I also don't know why lots of people want a "do it all" wrench . Couldn't care less that they have 5/8" and 3/4" openings . Who doesn't have open end wrenches that size !

I have taken off a few ungodly tight muzzle devices and I would much rather use a quality wrench like a Snap on Flank Drive ( doesn't put pressure on corner )

My most used by far is the PRI wrench . Reason for that is it can take std barrel nut but also most of the proprietary barrel nuts such as PRI , YHM, KAC FF ( exceptions like the DD and KAC URXII )

There is no way in hell you can have the PRI wrench slip off

Much easier to handle with torque wrench

Only downside is you would have to remove the A2 front sight to slip wrench over . Thats the only time I reach for my Smith / Magpul . Even without them, taking off A2 front sight is easy with the right tools ( cradle and concave punch) )

For castle nuts, just buy a dedicated buffer tube wrench

Lost available from the cheapy RRA ( I used one for years and it worked fine ) to the Brownells at over $60

IMO , take the extra $$ you save buying the PRI wrench and RRA and put it towards a good vise block ( I use the PRI ) and a Geissle reaction rod or the Brownells version of that

Anyone try IMI Defence's AR15/1911 wrench? Just ordered one off Amazon. It's about half the price of the Magpul tool too.

I have a $22 wrench coming from aliexpress ... will report back once it shows up...

If anything like the Gen 2 ncstar wrench metal too soft or half the options don't work.

The ncstar. The yhm spanner tab rounded off. The castle nut wrench tabs too big and the 1911 barrel bushing damaged the plug.

Alum not the best choice for a tool.

Especially Chinese aluminum, I do not see the pin type barrel nut side of that tool lasting past the first use.....Mine is steel and I had to use a good amount of force on it to tighten a barrel nut

I believe mine is a Smith Enterprises, it works pretty good so far, I think its mid price range for Ar15 wrenches

When it comes to any tool I consider how many times I plan to use it, if its a long term use tool I will spend more for a better quality or more durable tool. If its a one time use then I can go cheap and hope it lasts for as long as I need it

I'll just be changing out the hand guard on my recently acquired JR Carbine in .45 (don't own an AR) so I probably could have just borrowed an AR wrench. I agree that long term use warrants a quality tool.
The ad says "High Quality Aluminum" in the specs, but "Finish: Powder coated all steel construction" in the description. I guess it'll be a surprise! Good ol' aliexpress.
