Suggestions on new rifle

That would make a perfect second rifle for the range. Make sure its the one with the 8twist so you can shoot the heavier rounds with it.

I have that tikka you are looking at. Been a great rifle. I have had a few of the tikka rifles. Lots of great upgrades for them now as well.

I am looking to buy a second rifle to accompany my 6.5 creedmoor at the range, thinking the Tikka t3 .223 Varmiter. Any thoughts?

I believe I recently saw one of those on the EE with a 24" or 26" barrel IIRC, but don't remember the twist rate...

Tikka's are sweet rifles and most are good value too, the Varminter being among those.

Cheers D

If I was buying a rifle from the store for a range gun it would probably be a savage 12. But seeing you have a 6.5creed anything 308 doesn't really make much sense. The 223 with 8" twist can be very fun with the long heavy bullets. If you can find a savage with 8" twist I'd screw that barrel off and get a gun smith to cut the throat a little longer to seat those bullets a little longer and reduce pressure. And if the money is there I would just build it. Build it right once and be done. Cheaper than buying and selling to eventually end up with a full custom in the end. Good luck

I have a T3 Varmint in .223. I shoot 80 SMK's and 82 Bergers out to 900 yards. Accuracy is about as good as it gets with a factory gun. The only issue you will have if you want to shoot the heavy bullets is the mag length. I replaced my bottom metal to accept AI mags which give me plenty of room to seat out the long heavy bullets.

Cheers!!

Ya... this is the deal

223 is a wimp at AR15 mag length of 2.25 but the AI mags allow OAL of 2.5 inches which is a bonefied F Class length
Combine that with a 1:7 barrel twist rate and 80 grainers and you'll really have something

Actually this is my next build....
