I am new to shooting, kinda, and I'm looking for ideas on which shotgun to buy first. Just doing some research and I could use a few good places to start.
Thanks

Let me help narrow it down :)

What are you looking for? (semi pump)

What are you using it for? (competition, hunting, home defense, combination)

Answers to these questions would help your focus :)

MOssberg 500 with 28 inch field barrel and accuchoke system. Wood stock. A great platform to use, and work on. around 320$

Or grab a cheap single shot off the EE here for around 120$ to your door. Theres a few nice ones to be had. or a new one from Canada Ammo for 150$, with a 12 inch barrel and Non-Res.

I'm thinking a pump action... I'll hopefully be using it for clay shooting and in case of bears or cougars in the mountains while camping.

I'm partial to the Remington 870. Parts and accessories and barrels are easy to come by, and you can Lego build a bird buster, or a short barreled wilderness protection gun quite easily. Check out the pictures sticky for inspiration.

For new guns take a look at the 870 Express Combo and the Winchester SXP Camp/Field Combo. The 870 Express may require a little polishing out of the box but it's still a very dependable platform. In the used gun section the older 2 3/4" 870 Wingmasters will do the trick and you can pick up an old barrel for $100 or less and cut it down to 18.5" for your wildlife protection duties. There's also the Winchester 1300 and older barrels are easy to find as well.
