I am thinking of getting into pistol shooting and need som suggestions on models to buy. I have looked at both the CZ-75B and the Baby Eagle and find them interesting! I have been recomended to start with a 9mm as the caliber to go with. Am I on the right track? Any suggestions and input would be wonderful.
Thanks!

The best suggestion i can offer, is go to your local stocking dealer, and load up on factory 9mm, .40, .38 special, and a few bricks of .22lr ammo. Then pay your local range a visit. Talk to the members about joining and see if it's the club for you.

Along the way when the shooting begins, let the members know you are interested in buying your first handgun, and see if you can try out thiers, using the factory ammo you've brought.

Most members won't mind, as long as you are respectful and they are not pressed for time.

As for your suggestion of a 9mm CZ type, well it's a very good first gun. if you are not going to start with a .22lr, it's a decent gun to begin with.

I believe that 9mm is the most inexpensive centerfire handgun ammo you can shoot, and there's a pretty wide variety of firearms available that'll use it.

A lot of folks will recommend .22lr as well, since it's the absolute cheapest.. $17-$20/500 rounds. It depends really on your budget and what you're looking for.

Your best bet is to stop in at a shop or your range and handle as many guns as you can to find what feels balanced and comfortable in your hands.

9mm is a great calibre; cheap but fan to shoot...

if you want to go with something under $700 I'd recommand a Taurus PT99 (stainless, w/ adj. sights) for about $650 (basically an older Beretta version :))

Since your close ( spruce grove ) , head to west edmonton mall and check out wild west shooting centre ( http://www.shootingcentre.com/ ) . They have a range and rental guns to try , no licence needed . They will have a few different handguns for you to try out . The owner is Kanada Kidd ( member here ) , that way you can try a few diff guns and see what you like . Bring your credit card though :) .

CZ and baby Eagle are great guns and the price are so good, but there are also some other guns will take your breath away once you hold them on hand. Thus it is a good idea to try them out before you buy one. Of course 9mm is a good cal and you can reload them for cheap if you want.

Try before you buy if possible. Wild West is a good place to start out with a good selection to test drive. Not sure the mileage on some of the range guns though. You seem to be leaning toward an auto loader over a revolver any reasoning or just starting out.

baby eagle is overpriced junk...made in Italy by Tangfolio and then assembled by IMI. its just a CZ clone anyways...

THe CZ is a good choice...

ScrewMartin, I own and shoot CZ pistols but guess what? You are right, I also have a TZ75, that cheap knock off, that will shoot rings around any CZ75 or 75B I have seen. Years ago I sold a TZ75 Compact to a friend and it is the only handgun he shoots well. I find Tangfoglio piistols to be a great value. Regards, Richard :D

Baby eagle or CZ75b, get the CZ,way buy the clone? get the real thing .you can also get a .22 conversion for it ,the Kidet ,its quick to change slides and cheeper to shoot the .22s
And will fit on both the 9mm and the .40 . So you can get the .40 to .Bigger bang.and it starts with a 4 [I suffer from lesser calibre syndrome]:D I find it fits my hand nicely and points well. there is a little more muzzle flip with the .40 however, the recoils not bad ,if a little snapy.;)
