Suitability of the Ruger No.1 action for a WSSM wildcat?

I picked up my first Ruger No.1 the other day, and went so crazy for the action I promptly bought two more the same week, one a stainless and one a varmint. I love the No.1, and didn't see that coming. It's so nice not having the action length as well, and since these are paper punchers, single shot is just right anyhow.

SOOO... I just had a reamer made for my 7mm WSSM wildcat and would love to rebarrel my new stainless No.1 with it, already have the blank on the way and I have a new Rem 700 .300WSM that was to be the donor action, now I'm changing my mind...

BUT, then I remembered something about the single shots not being well suited to the SAUM's/WSM's/WSSM's due to case head thrust with the short, fat cases.

I'm REALLY hoping this is a good to go, would love to build on a No.1. *Fingers crossed, nervous to hear from some of the smiths and those who know more than I here*

I haven't worried about it with the two 6.5WSM's that I own on Browning highwalls, and my buddy has a 6.5WSM on a Ruger No.1 that shoots like a house afire .
One of my 6.5WSM's is at Paul Reibin's right now getting rechambered to 6.5WSSM.
I cannot see the proiblem , as Winchester makes the 1885 in three WSM calibers !
My best groups with the 6.5WSM are close to .5MOA at 1,000 meters off the bench and also from a log!:D

Glad to hear it, I'll go ahead and build on my stainless then :)

I have made .338-378's and .338 Lapua's on the number one action. They are strong and I would not expect any problem that way.

Just the normal extra labour involved with the Number 1 compared to most bolt actions.

If looking for all out accuracy, considers these points

The trigger will not get very light but can be tuned to be nice and crisp.

The action has a tendency to string vertically. A fair amount of tweaking on that front lug is needed. There are many articles now and parts to help with this problem.

You will need to make your own stocks as BR style stocks are not available.

You are forced to have a very high rests so that you can drop the lever to cycle the action. Can have a tendency to roll more during recoil.

It will be a unique and fun project.

In case you are worried about the action and back thrust, just remember that there are many in 458Lott, and 416Rigby. Me thinks these have a bit more back thrust then your little target case.
