Suitable optic for a slug barrel shotgun?

Hi I'm looking for some optic ideas for a hunting shotgun application. I've got a 15" slug barrel with a full top rail and no sights. I'm looking for something basic with no batteries and simple cross hairs are fine. What are folks running on this set up that's durable enough for a 12 gauge shotgun on a $300 budget? Thanks in advance :)

A Nikon prostaff or a vortex diamondback would work. Typically designated slug scopes have some kind of BDC reticle, a shorter parallax setting and some come with extended eye relief. Other than that all tested to same standards as rifle scopes. I have a bushnell trophy on my slug gun with plain x-hair as I prefer it to. The bushnell has held up for last couple years fine. Had a prostaff on my old slug gun which was also fine. Would prefer the Nikon slughunter just never came across a deal while I was looking.

As said you may get BDC with a "Shotgun scope". I think these "special purpose" shotgun and ML scopes are a bit gimmicky. If the scope is constructed properly they should handle the pounding of a slug. If it doesn't, warranty is your friend lol

Biggest difference will usually be eye relief and possibly the parallax setting.

I’m using the Nikon Prostaff 2-7x32 slug hunter, tons of eye relief and fov at low power.
 
Well thanks everyone this is just exactly the type of info I was looking for! I'm going to check these all out if appears most if not all are in my price range. Want to get back into hunting next fall but after so many years off of hunting I'm going to need some serious "seat time" when this rig is set up to test at various ranges. Sadly though... over the years my former hunting buddies also drifted away from it and I no longer have anyone to go with :(
I'm in Manitoba and if anyone knows of a place or range north of Winnipeg where I can practice that's not too far that would be fantastic.
 
Ok , batteries and a bit more expensive but i have an Aimpoint T2 Micro that's been on for 4 years and still not dead and i have the Aimpoint Patrol on another shotgun for 2 years now and still not dead .
