I was in on the preorder for M31, took it to the range once, and absolutely hated it. M31 is way too front heavy and way too heavy in general, in order to make it comply with Canadian NR laws. If it had a bolt hold open on empty mag, I didn't see it, and that meant that if I wanted to switch mags, I had to load them to 4 rounds, not to 5, or fumble with the bolt, which is a #####. But the main complaints are the weight and the balance. After about 4 months of having it advertised for sale, a fellow who is into WW2 reconstruction bought it off me locally for 700$, so with taxes and shipping, I lost ~110$ on it. And frankly, that thing is not an 800$ worth of a firearm.
So I agree, that it is junk, and unless you are a reconstructor and need one for authenticity, I'd say stay far far away. Save yourself some money, and buy an SKS (heck, buy 3 or 4 of them for the money), you'll get more authenticity and joy out of it, or buy a CZ858, if you want a nice plinker that's a bit easier to clean then an SKS.
