The discontinued Marlin 2000 can be converted from a single shot to a repeater with the socalled "Summer Biathlon Kit", basically a replacement strip with a cut-out for the magazine, a magazine, and a release mechanism.

There is a Marlin 2000 for sale in the exchange section, but it would be useless to me without the conversion kit, and at least three more magazines (better a few more). I need four magazines to take part in biathlon competitions.

Does anybody know if these are still for sale anywhere. An internet search steered me towards e-gunparts.com, but they are sold out.

With a bit of work I could turn the 2000 into a "cheap" biathlon rifle, that would serve me just fine. Can't justify the expense of a fully equiped Anschutz for what is merely a recreational activity.

Thanks.

Marlin 2000

I converted my own without having to buy anything and with not too much difficulty. The process included making a hole in the rail for the mag, making a mag release extension and removing the stoppage block. The mag well and mag release were already present on my rifle (also bought used) and the standard Marlin 7 or 10 shot mags fit, not sure if all 2000's came so equipped or not. This is a deadly gopher rig, and is a lot better as a repeater.

This particular rifle has also taken "gold" at one competition that I am aware of.

Hey Blackdog,

That sounds interesting. The Kit as shown on this page http://www.biathlon.net/marlin.gif
features a "mag release button"... I can only imagine it is operated by pushing down on it somehow, maybe with the bolt open...?
Did you manufacture something that could be operated from the bottom?

hello frans i have got a 2000 l model with the kit installed when it was purchased . ionly have one clip . you say there is one for sale they are good shooters ,you should grab it and be like myself look for a clip later . malcolm

Thanks for all the feedback. Our biathlon coach doesn't recommend the Russian guns (Iszmash) unless they have been fitted with an Anschutz barrel. Apparently accuracy suffers tremendously in the cold....?

I called Marlin, and they have five shot magazines available, and they gave me a phone number of a shop that supposedly sells the conversion kits. Their generic 10-shots magazines apparently don't fit (though their website states that they fit all bolt actions produced after 1988).

Yes the mag release button I manufactured protrudes thru the bottom rail, the top portion of it rests on the mag release. An upward push on the button releases the mag. A seven round mag is basically flush with the bottom of the rail, and a ten shot protrudes a little. If you provide your addy via a private message, I can send some pics..
