I did some chatting and found out that a family of coyotes moved into a area I do most of my shooting in, so I decided to pay em a visit. I wanted to hold out till winter but I know more will move in before then.
Made it out for 6am this past saturday to find that as soon as I got out of my truck i could hear a few of them doing their morning howling. Grabbed all my gear and started my walk in, but didnt make it to far before seeing a yote hangin out on a little hill over looking a few cows. He saw me (I was about 800yds away) but couldnt tell what I was, as you can tell he was trying to figure out what I was. After a few minutes of staring at each other he decided it was time to move on. Since I knew the area pretty good I had a good idea where he was heading.
After a little walk I decided to put out the hellfire and do some calling. Started the set with a few minutes with the rabbit, did a couple female howls and that brought the first one charging right in to 50yds from the sand pile from the top left in the pic. Im pretty sure this is the one I think that I saw earlier. DRT I knew that there is 5 here somewhere so I let pup distress play for awhile. No more then a minute of that I have another hard charger coming in from that big sand pile on the right side in the pic. It comes right up to where the first one lays. With a little bark it stops and I put one into it. It barks and does a flip spraying blood everywhere and dies. I keep the caller rocking for another minute and sure enough have one more charging in from the trees to my front. This guys alittle more hesitant though. Hes staying in the low ground out to my front at about 160 out. This guy is just peeking over looking around towards me trying to figure out all the commotion. I can see him looking around like he doesnt want to come in anymore. He starts off towards where the second dog just came from. I give him alittle bark and he stops just with his shoulders and head exposed, but.... I shot abit low and I could see the splash on the top of the hill he was hiding behind. A miss... arg oh well Ill take him down this winter.
