Sumner fling? Will I regret it?

Long-term I want something AR-ish (next spring).

Medium-term I want to start reloading (this fall) as I hear it burns calories as efficiently as the Scarsdale diet.

Short-term I was thinking of buying an AXIS or similarly inexpensive .223 to start collecting ammo/brass.

Toss an SKS in there somewhere and maybe another M1911 etc. but the question remains... Should I indulge in a summer fling with a relatively inexpensive .223?

Local range is 50m indoors so during winter this is a factor. Not too far is a 200m range I could join. Just wondering if I shouldn't just get started on an AR build with what I'll pay for the AXIS, scope etc.

Darn, think I just answered my own question ;)

Oh so befuddled...

Go straight for the AR.

Actually, go straight to that Range, and get your membership. Start using it with whatever machines you have now.
That way, you can find out if you like the range life you get invested in a restricted. Some people love range life, some people hate range life.
Some ranges just turn out to suck.

Once you're in there, and know you like it, start that AR build.

In the meantime, ask about doing the Range ATT course. Some ranges will let you do it, even if you don't already have a restricted. That way, when you do get your restricted, as the course is already done, the range can go ahead and get you an ATT without you having to wait for the next available course.

Alternatively, if you start your build with a lower, that lower will qualify you for your ATT course, and you can get that out of the way. By time you finish your build, you'll be able to bring it straight to the range right away.

I myself, am a member of a good featured, easy going range, so I love range life, therefor I get to love my AR.
