I recently obtained permission to hunt coyotes on two farms that are having issues (7 sheep lost in past two weeks at one farm). The WMU does not currently allow Sunday hunting.

My question is whether there is an exemption/exception for predator control on private property?

I've checked the township bylaws and there is no mention of anything like this, and I can't find anything in the MNR regs.

You would probably be OK IF it was your property and your live stock, or if you are a lisenced animal control officer. failing those you are hunting and could be in trouble.

Check the link Major sites gave you.... I would also call the CO.... there is a difference between shooting a coyote that is chasing your sheep / chickens around and hiding in the woods in a camo outfit using an ecaller and bringing him in..... cover your butt!

What about hiding in the woods (or nearby) on a farm in camo, calling them in, to stop them from killing sheep, on a Sunday??

Rest of the week I'm good, but would be nice to have the whole weekend sometimes!

:D

My GUESS would be that the coyote would have to be showing a direct risk to the livestock (ie attacking it, standing in the paddock with them) for it to not be considered hunting. Being that you dont own the property, I would also think you must be confirmed in writing as an agent of the landowner given permission to control wildlife.

That all said, call your local CO.

Seeing one in the backyard and shooting it is not hunting.

Setting up, waiting for them, calling them, whatever, is hunting.

most townships who do still regulate it, do it as a DISCHARGE bylaw.. it applies to more then hunting..

Whats the township.. people here can help you find the info.
