Feeling lucky decided to go out again this morning, with the new fresh 2.5” of snow last night I felt good about my chances of seeing something, fresh tracks anyway. I hit the first farm at first light, walked the 500yds or so to the setup. Place the e-caller/decoy about 40 yds to my left. I started off with my hand calls followed by e-caller playing dying rabbit and coyote vocals but after 30 mins nothing came into the set so I left. As I pull into the next farm I see the neighbors are out for a walk with their dogs, they tell me they seen 3 coyotes yesterday near the house. Great, I thank them and off I go. I make the long walk to where I feel will be a half decent spot to setup. I place my decoy about 30 yds to my left. I am out of breath after such a long walk I decide to begin with my e-caller, I let it play dying rabbit for about a minute and then go silent, I let it play again for about another minute and then go silent again. I let it play for the 3rd time only to see the coyote enter the field (bush is 125 yds away) and head toward my caller/decoy. I hit my P2 button, Vole squeak begins to play on a very low volume. Coyote stops behind a tree, no shot, a couple seconds go by she begins to move again trying to get the wind I guess (moving from my left to right) I wolf her, she stops but again no shot (tree in the way again), a couple seconds later she continues downwind, I wolf her again, this time she is in the clear. I send the 55gr bullet into her neck from 65 yds away dropping her in her tracks. At the sound of the shot I see another coyote running away, no chance for a shot on the second one, never seen it come in at all.
I skinned this critter on site and boy was it cold, the hide froze solid by the time I finished cleaning up.
