Sunshades - Poll

It’s not a sun shade on the BC coast it’s a rain shade.

Mostly think the sunshade is good protection for objective. Keeps fingers off the lens.

Ok to protect the objective lens or keep it dry, but not much more than that....mine are usually on the shelf.

PRS.... about 50/50. Just depends on the location, weather and stage layout. Definitely gets removed if a stage has ports for props

Have them on most of my rifles. They certainly help when shooting with the sun in your face, keep rain off and make it less likely for something to hit your objective. There really is no downside to running them other than in some conditions, it makes it harder to fit a rifle through a tight port, in which case you just remove it prior to the stage...

when the sun hits at certain angles, you really wish you had one on, I guess if you shoot at a range facing north, you would never need one.

Our range points due west. Late spring early summer you will need it. I have used the honey comb ones. Worked good. But never on a hunting rifle.

Somewhere there is some video I saw of a 50BMG rifle in slow motion and the flex imparted to the scope during recoil. Sunshade hanging out front increased the flex. Whether it's a legitimate phenomenon to be concerned with I don't know, but I have since removed all mine and only use them if they help with mirage.

I like them on my target and hunting rifles. Hunting rifles especially. It keeps the sun from reflecting off the lens and alerting the animal. Proper sunshades are easier to find than a honeycomb ARD.

As above... Rain protection, dust and debris protection and occasionally used for its namesake purpose as a sunshade when the sun is low because on of my ranges faces west.

I have the sunshade from my Nikon optic. I use the sunshade to protect the lens. It also helps with rain.
