hi everyone. i purchased a suomi on september 25 from one of the site sponsors. i returned home with it and started to clean and oil it. rite away i noticed that its barrel was not solid and was very wobbly were it met the receiver (unsafe to fire IMO). i took it back for its necessary warranty work and havent seen it since. i have phoned the store several times to ask for a status update and have gotten no answer other then it takes a couple of months. the first time i was told this it was ok because it had not been over 2 months but today i got the same answer. At this point after spending $700 on a defective rifle (that could not safely be used) and waiting this long with no good reason i am staring to just want my money back. i asked if they could give me a functional suomi or an in store credit and they said no. i then asked if i could call the place that has my rifle and ask for an update and they said they would not give me the number. i wanted some customer service and got none. my friends and i have spent tens of thousands of dollars at this store and now after this kind of service i feel like boycotting and calling them out on CGN...i want my rifle or an answer by the end of the month.
over all the suomi only cost me $700. the loss of business from me and my friends to there company will be much greater. just foolishf:P:.

trust me. i want to and will if this carry's on past this month. you may be suprized who it is.
has anyone else had this happen to them? is this a normal way to do business that i didnt know about?

This is how things work in the Canadian firearms business.

Very few dealers will actually exchange a firearm for you even if unfired.

This is why I always try SFRC or Prairie Gun Traders first when I want something, as I know they will exchange at least if it's unfired. PGT has done so in the past and even paid for shipping for me, and I know SFRC goes above and beyond from the many threads here....

But like I said, your story is not an uncommon one, and this is the BS we deal with in this industry, despite it being absolutely unacceptable in any other business. Hell, many provinces have consumer protection acts that actually state the product is supposed to be in working order or else you are entitled to your money back, but these ####### gun stores don't give a damn!

Too many gun experts, and not enough customer service, or sales people behind those counters!

OP, don't feel bad! I bought a mossberg rifle earlier this year that broke the ejector blade right away. I took it back to cabela's for "warranty" and they said there was nothing they could do either then give me a phone number to call. I thought "really you can't help me with warranty on a product that you sell?".

The next day I phoned the number to find out it was a gunsmith in south eastern Ontario. They told me that I'd have to pay to ship it there and back, which was about $50 out of my pocket all over a $5 part might I add. I though "really I have to pay to ship a defective product to get fixed!".

Anyhow long story short I email mossberg in the states who got right back to me and said they forwarded my email to the warranty rep in Canada and he would be getting in touch with me. I've email twice more and still have heard nothing back and sure haven't recieved the $5 ejector blade in the mail yet.

That was probably 5 months ago and still no parts, no warranty, no anything. I made a new ejector blade from stainless and in fact I don't even own the gun any more!!!!

This is why I'll never buy another mossberg product again, simply because they have 0 warranty contrary to what the "warranty book" inside the box leads you to believe!!

Now after this i know you cant even buy from a business without very close inspection. i could have gotten one from the EE in better shape and if not at least i could bash there trader rating. wich cant be done against a sponsorH:S:

At the end of the day some of these dealers don't wan't the hassle or the costs in taking care of their customers. I always buy things knowing that if it doesn't work when I get it, i'll probably get the shaft. Choose your dealers wisely, sometimes a few bucks more is worth not getting a headache.

It would still shoot just would jam every time!!! I didn't want to hijack the thread but figured I'd post just to let the op know that it seems to be normal to have zero customer service in the Canadian firearms business.

thanks for the heads up guys. i just wish i new that before this happened. i would have cought the huge defect befor i paid for it.

I'm a bolt action milsurp guy but I was seriously looking at a Suomi earlier this year. Cheap ammo and those ugly duckling good looks, how could I say no. Then I read about barrels being loose and lots of problems! I'm really quite glad I didn't buy one, and I'm very sorry for those who have! $700 is a lot of money to me and I'd be pissed! Specially because the gun was new and unfired. I would have demanded my money back!

thanks Tinman204 just so you know, be a carefull shopper. I have only asked nicely so far but my patients are wearing thin and if i dont get a fair response i may be buying a lawyer for them instead of a new bullpup through them. just because they pissed in my cornflakes, i am thinking about paying some one to piss in theirs. weather i would win or not doesnt matter to me. they may find a better way to go about legal trade.

Are you talking about the barrel wobbling in the receiver? That's what they are like. It isn't only yours.

There are shims sold for the purpose of tightening up that fit. That's how the Finns did it.

That bit of wobble is not in itself dangerous.

The Canadian model Suomi sets up stresses in the system that were not designed in. Why? That long, heavy, 19" barrel puts a lot of cantelevered stress on the receiver.

Jeeze man...cool your jets. Your retailer didn't manufacture the gun. Whatever small profit margin they made on it would be more than eaten up with shipping charges etc. [flame suit on]

They are captive to whatever the distributor will do for them.

The problem we Canadians have is, the US border is not something easily crossed with firearms. They have to go through export permits, import permits, customs brokers, duties, costly shipping etc etc. We cannot just mail a rifle back to TNW for example. I wish we could.

ya im not there yet.... all i want is a real answer. not some f-in rehearsed line they obviously give people over and over again.

Not being able to call out a sponsor of this site is some sketchy 5hit. I say if it looks like 5hit and smells like 5hit, it should be called out as 5hit regardless of how much money they are paying the guy at the top.

Especially if what you say is true. I personally would like to know because I can't stand bad customer service. They could at least look into it for you and get you an estimated time or even a shred of information you request.

Please PM me the name of the business.

I've only dealt with Tradex and SFRC and I have not seen better customer service even including non firearms related purchases elsewhere in my travels.

I have one I sold that had a broken weld within the first 50 rounds. I had the customer send back to the distributor directly and a new one was mailed to me within 2 weeks or so. North Sylva is handling warranty claims directly. As someone else said though, the wobbly barrels MIGHT be normal for the design. Not sure who you bought it from and dont want to step on toes, but perhaps a call to North Sylva will get you some answers
