superchrono acoustical chrono graph.. opinions, experience?

SOOOO lets just say some time ago, i almost needed to start a "best caliber for chrono defense " thread, but it turns out a .308 does just fine!

now with a few new loads developed and a few extra rifles int he safe, i feel id like to pick up a new chrono to have some numbers to run in my ballistic app etc. Iv known about the superchrono for some time, but since i had one i never thought much about it. but now im back in the market for one. i really like that its not effected by sun / clouds and all that other fun stuff, as its acoustical. Iv read quite alot of reviews on them, and it seems to be a good investment and i do like that it only needs a tripod so its hand to cart around, no wires no rods no defusers, just aim and go...

any one here have some first hand experience with them? are they lasting. worth the price?

I had never heard of it until just now. Looks very interesting. One downside is that the projectile has to be supersonic for it to be read. This is probably not an issue for most people but it is for me. I am testing some subsonic loads and my old school chrony works just fine for that.

I found a price on ebay of $368. Doesn't sound unreasonable for something like that. If it works as well as the manufacturer claims it will address all of the disadvantages of the optical units.
 
Ya the having to be supersonic part isn't an issue for me , I push my rifles pretty hard. The reviews I've been reading seem to say its a good buy and you need to try pretty hard to "confuse" the unit , like having it 45* to the target sort of thing .
 
The thing I I think would be a pain is that you can't read it from the bench because the display faces the sky. Other than that they seem worth a try
 
These work well... but are hard on batteries, due to their method of measurement. Best for at target speeds for calculating BC's and for sheer convenience in your range bag. I own several others including Chony and 2 CEDs but these have the best shooting window available.

Picked mine up from Rifles Only (US) for $380 to my door.
 
Thanks tsavo. Basically you described what I want conveiniant and to get numbers. Not going to sit there and fire 500 rounds threw it . Develope my load 5shots for a MV done deal

Think ill pick one up
