recently took a few boxes of hornady superformance out to the range 3006 and 270
once i got them dialed in, with both rifles (win model 70 3006, and savage 110 in 270) i could put a group of 3 in both calibres under an inch at 100yrds. looks real pretty.
but when i tried another group of 3 shots with each, the first one would be dead on, but the next two would be 3 inches to the right either high or low aswell. now mind you the only time it was left to cool was the time it took me to walk the 100yrds and back. i dont get it, two different guns, two different calibres, same results. stupid me didnt think to bring the targets to post online.
anyone else had this issue? maybe even with a different kind of ammo? im just thinking maybe shooting it hot has a very bad affect on accuracy, but i mean how bad should it be? let me know what ya think and what i should try. thanks

This can be caused by several factors. Human error is generally first. Other issues could be that when the barrel got warm and when it expanded it touched the stock and changed the harmonics.

What I do is leave at least one minute with the bolt open between shots and no more than 10 shot in a hour period. Ie shoot one gun and let it cool while shooting the other. Then again a warm/hot barrel has never changed my group to that point. Generally when I get flyers it is me.

I have a savage model 11 in 7mm-08 after a few shots it would start to throw rounds in a similar matter. I found that it was touching the stock using a piece of paper. I ensured the barrel was centered and sanded the imperfection in the stock down. Problem was solved for me.

my 2 cents.

wow i never thought about that. right before i left i said f it and fired two more shots. they were litterally on top of eachother but 3 inches right and a couple inches low. the barrel isnt free floated so maybe ill give that a shot on them both. thanks again.
