HI folks I've never spoken to one person who liked the superformance ammo hornady sells, it just doesn't seem to group. My question is has anybody loaded with that powder and how does it do.

Thanks

I loaded some 165grn SST/.30-06 for my brother. Good speed even well under max and he's taken 3 deer so accuracy is acceptable at the least.

Yup, I've used it in my 6.5CM. When things were getting tight and powder shortages were forecast, I bought some to see if it was a suitable alternative. Simple answer, yes it was and is a suitable alternative. With the right load it shot the same poi and speed as my loads using 4350. It flows easily through the powder measure. And gave me an extra 200fps in a 270 I was playing with. Excellent powder, but it is a bit temperature sensitive, so I dont leave loaded cartridges lying around in the sun on a hot day. For me it is a viable alternative to my regular load and I can change from one to the other with no variation. And I've used it confidently out to 1400 metres.

I have a load with Hodgdon's Superformance powder in my T/C ICON 30-06.
6x grains behind the 165 Accubond. 3025 avg and shoots right around
5/8 moa right out past 400 meters. Dave.

The factory ammo is very different powder from the hogdon powder you can buy. (Secret 11 herbs and spices kinda thing)
The Hogdon superformace powder is temp sensitive, but what it works in. It works! Hogdon/Hornaday will be the go to for any data on this

Yes, they use a slower formulae, likely coatings, but maybe a different additive for their commercial loading customers.

Ganderite could possibly give more information on this.

I remember reading a similar thread on a US site and one of the fellows involved in powder manufacture made a short comment that it was quite a bit slower thand the cannister grade offerings for hand loaders.

There was a similar situation with H414 several years ago. Commercial loaders used a powder labled as H414SL10 which was quite a bit slower than H414/W760. Closer to W780 but not quite that slow. The only way to get H414sl10 was to purchase it from Higginson's, who picked it up as lot over runs and sold it to Canadian hand loaders, along with several other powders.

I think it loads good. These are ladder tests with 6.5 PRC in 127 Barnes LRX 10 shot group, and 150 Nosler ABLR respectively 6 shot group. (Ignore the wild spray underneath my rifle seems to hate the 120gr nosler e tips)
