My wife and I have been talking about getting into target shooting for a number of years now, more her idea then mine up to now. Anyway we went to Vegas a couple weeks ago and spent some time at "The gun store" doing some supervised shooting on their range, and this made our minds up for us. We are now signed up for the next RPAL course at the local gun store/range (Shooters Choice in Waterloo).
My question is this... Are there any ranges in Ontario that do the same thing as the gun store in Vegas where people in our position can go and shoot "rented" handguns under supervision?

Thanks

Gary

Target Sports just nort of Toronto offers supervised shooting for $40 per person plus the cost of the ammo for whatever guns you want to try. They are a sponsor up top on the left hand side.

Thanks for the info on Target, I had been on their site but never noticed this before. Now I have something to do on Saturday!

Thanks

Gun Rental

You cannot rent gun's at any range, per CFO. However it is legally bypassed by paying for the services of a designated RO from the range, which is the way Target sports gets around the rules. Precisely what it amounts to, is that he MUST be beside you at all times, An be fully situationaly aware of your operation of the firearm you are using. Hope that helps.

You'll love Target Sports. I was there with a buddy on the weekend so I could try a bunch of handguns before deciding what to buy. Look to spend about $100 each at least if you're shooting handguns...more for rifles. We were there for a full hour taking turns at the same station and it wound up costing $180 for the two of us.

Like Lanis said though, make sure you book ahead if you're going on a weekend. I had to book 2 weeks in advance.

Oh, and make sure you try the 44 Magnum revolver...super fun :)

Biggunners, not to take a jab at you but your incorrect. You can do drop ins, with your own guns , also you need to show them your ATT from another club if your shooting restricted. They would love to be able to do that, or let people try used guns before they buy, but the CFO is not letting it happen.

Compared to what they charge at The Gun Store in Vegas, it will be super cheap. When I dropped in there last year, it cost me 50 bucks to shoot 20 rounds of 9mm. OUCH!!!!

I was there last week.

One hour, three handguns, four targets + one free, 150 rds of 9mm- came just shy of $120 dollars.

People that work there are friendly and knowledgeable.

Based on some of the aforementioned prices it would be more economical to find a club that you like and join. Go to their club nights and if its anything like the club I belong to you will find a great group of people who would be more then willing to let you shoot their guns until you get your own. Some clubs have club ammo you can use while your in your probation but bring your own if you can (you will get to shoot more lol).

Gary, give me a PM and i'll arrange to take you and your wife out some time. What would you like to shoot? There are a bunch of members on the board here :)

You can talk to Trevor at shooters choice, he's one of the guys that does the rpal/club handgun safety course at the store/range. I booked a private session with him before I had my rpal, he had some .22 rugers to shoot, a CZ 9mm, and a revolver .38 special (no idea which one) cost was about 100 bucks for an hour? It was a while ago though so I don't remember exactly how much.
