Love my plinker (think it is a Cooey, made for Hudsons Bay) but dropped the plastic mag and cannot find a replacement anywhere. All I can find are metal mags that are not even close to what I have. Anyone have any info on this gun???

How about a SURESHOT? This model of 64 was made during the Winchester years. Cooey had a semi on the drawing board but was not actually made till winchester bought Cooey out. If this is a Cooey-Winchester there is conversion kit out to get it to the metal 64 mag. The Surshot was made for the Robert Simpson Co that later became Simpson-Sears------Cowboy

Winnipeg Toymaker can tell ya what you need to convert it to take metal mags(if he finds this thread). I also seen some plastic mags at a gun show for it, and you can also try an ad in the EE for them. That's if you wanna stick with the plastic magazines.

To convert this Cooey to metal mag....you need the metal mag well and metal mag that is available directly from Savage. Ph. 1-413-568-7001. the part #s are 700485 and 700484. it does take some modification to the stock to make it fit.

lone-wolf....if you come across any more mags please send them to me. I have an original Cooey 64 now c/w plastic mag. sure does work sweet.

Actually what I seen was the rifle with the plastic magazine. I almost bought the damn thing. If it wasn't for restraint I'd have more .22s then I have friends to shoot them with. lol
The gun show had the metal mags for $30! Glad I ordered them from savage for, I think it was $13 each? hehe

What do ya think of the plastic mag vs the metal one?
That cooey 64b I put the new parts on is working almost as well as my new 10/22 with crappytire bulk federal. And they work about the same when both are fed mini-mags.

I do like the plastic mag. The metal works ok but the carts seem to slide easier from the plastic. After a few adjustments, the old 64s work great. Kept clean and oiled, they function as well as the new guns. For a 40 - 50 year old gun...who could ask more.

A person can order the metal mags from SIR ( Cabelas) for the $20 mark. Why pay more? Show prices are high for all sort of gun paraphernalia.

Yup!........SURESHOT is the model (not SureFire).....sometimes the brain & fingers get disconnected! The bottom of the mag has the name "Cooey" also.

Thanks to everyone for all the info. Will do some soul searching and decide if I want to convert or stay stock......the gun works as well on gophers as my .17HMR.....up to about 60 yds....so hate to change anything. Ammo is really cheap too!!!

What you could do is change it over to the metal mags, cause it's only 2 parts, the mag well and the magazine. Do that, shoot it, and once you find some plastic magazines, change it back to the original config.
The only downside would be if you have to do some 'adjustments' to the stock itself :(
