Dragged my latest toys to the range today, Savage 12FV 308/762 and my Remington 700 PSS in 556/223. Using the Rem UMC 556 FMJ it grouped well under an inch no problem...winchester bulk around a inch and the south african just under a inch (100 yards) The Savage was a disappointment, with IVI and portugal surplus...all at around 1.5 + - What should I be giving my Savage now that I have bought 600 rounds of the Portugal 147 FMJ !?!?!?!??

1.5 is not too bad for surplus. You can either sell the ammo and try different ammo, or shoot it and try different ammo.

The portugese is not too bad out of my ltr, but does have some odd fliers that I didn't call. Where are you located?

You have to remember mil surplus ammo is made to fit battle rifles and machineguns. Some lots of IVI were not too bad, around 1 1/2 MOA, other lots were 3 MOA.
FMJ bullets are not match bullets. You can pull the bullets on the ammo you have, re- throw the charges and seat a match bullet. It can be a lot of work, but you already have brass and powder, you just need a good bullet.
These rounds are also seated short to fit any batllefield dirty chamber. Seating deepth is important for accuracy. Some rifle will shoot better with the bullets out near the lands.
