Just wondering if anyone knows the longevity of the corrosive 7.62 X 39 ammo after the crate has already been opened. The way things are going it's been taking me way too long to get through a crate due to obligations. I may have this stuff for several years before I even open the next crate. If it's stored in a dry location is it much different than being in the welded container? I would think that the original container being air tight would make a big difference.

i have shot paper packaged 48rnd boxes of .303 surplus headstamped 1948 and some even older then that.... i think your grandchildren will be able to safely dispose of that crate you have open :D

keep it dry.

Thanks everyone! I agree about the comment on me not shooting enough ammo per outing. It's building to a boiling point!!! I may end up shooting a crate in one day after I get my affairs in order!

When I break out the sks, you know the country side is going to be noisy! And I figure, its going to need a good cleaning whether I shoot 50 or 400 rounds.

So I shoot til its gross. My last outing was about 400 rounds...its amazing how hot they get. It also shook my scope apart, but local dealer fixed me up no problem.:)

"...stored in a dry location..." Cool and dry with a steady humidity is best. Dry is more important. Ammo doesn't go bad quickly anyway.
