Surplus used body armour. Most appears to be Lvl II/Lvl IIA.

Sm: $69.95 or 3 for $199.95
Med $89.95
Large $119.95

Conditions vary, comes with a carrier (cloth parts) and front and rear panels (the soft armour). It is sold for novelty purposes only and sold as is. So far I've found Pacific Safety and Safariland vests but I'm sure there are many more brands.

You can put requests in when you order but there are no guarantees as we select them as they come from the boxes.

We only sell surplus vests to individuals with PAL's. That's my policy not a legal requirement...unless you live in BC...I'm sure you understand.

What are the expiry dates like?

Typically the expiry dates for kevlar vests are 5 years. However, that doesn't really reflect on the condition on the kevlar fibre itself, it's more of a liability and marketing thing. There are pics/vids of 10+ year old vests being tested that hold up just fine!

The vest I got from SFRC was from '98.

Do these things fit like shirts? Say I am a men's medium, would a medium vest be my best choice? Honestly I have no idea without trying one one.

I wear size small Shirts and I got a size Small vest and it fits pretty good. Check link below for more info on sizing and armor in general.

Do these vests have removable inserts that would fit in another plate carrier? Like the new condor one I got? ;)

Most plate carriers fit plate sized 10x12" panels or plates, these aren't squared off perfectly like that so it would need modification or folded up.

(sfrc should give me commission for answering questions :D)

Wait what?! It's illegal to buy body armour in BC??? even if you have a pal?

This has been asked time and time again. d:h: I am not offering legal advice, but I can show you a government page outlining it pretty clearly.

No it's not illegal. It's completely legal if you hold a P.A.L. or even a P.O.L.

You are exempted from the requirement on the basis of your firearms license.

http://www.pssg.gov.bc.ca/securityindustry/body-armour/index.htm#nopermit

here is the law

http://www.bclaws.ca/EPLibraries/bclaws_new/document/ID/freeside/203_2010

To see the exemptions, you want to go to section 4.

You have listed as small medium and large, but most armour is measured in chest sizes. What size is a 42 inch chest?

Any one out there buy one of these and feel up to posting a description / condition report of their purchase?

I would even appreciate a PM if discretion is your thing.

Cheers.

I am not interested in starting a pissing contest or derailing this thread but I cannot find any information in the links that support your assumption. There is a section mentioning the PAL requirement, but it starts with :

"Who May Possess Body Armour WITHOUT a Permit

Individuals exempt from requiring a permit to possess body armour while performing the job on which the exemption is granted are:"....

The exemption still appears related to your employment requirement.

Try the second link, section 2 (2) d.

Try the second link, section 2 (2) d.

Correct.

"For the purposes of section 2 (3) (c) of the Act, section 2 (2) of the Act does not apply to a person for the period during which the person..... is an individual who holds a valid licence issued under the Firearms Act (Canada) authorizing the individual to acquire or possess a firearm."

The website which I had hoped to be helpful was written by a provincial employee, not a legal aid or lawyer. The law stands as is, and it makes no mention of an employment requirement for the exception. All that is needed for the exemption is an individual with a valid firearms license.

The reason the header on the provincial website declares it must be "on the job" is because of section 2-1, which states that if you exempted because of your employment, you must be employed when using the body armor: "Section 2 (2) of the Act does not apply to a person described in section 2 (3) (a) or (b) of the Act when the person is not in the course of employment for the period during which the person holds a licence referred to, and is employed to perform work described, in section 2 (3) (a) or (b) of the Act. "

Para (a) and (b) refer to law enforcement or governmental agencies possessing body armor for use by their employees. This clarification simply states that those individuals who work with body armor cannot go home and legally own body armor without a permit or firearms license.

It's been a while, but I think I get the point. The confusing part is the regulations refer to sections of the act and not sections of the regulations which was totally confusing since there is no section 2 (3) in the regulations. I still am confused and need to print both items to understand what each is referring to. I hope you are correct.

Ordered a medium. Got a second chance super featherlight manufactured in 1998 , so expired in 2003, NIJ 0101.03 level II standard. the panels are encased in a gore tex cover with the labels inside, someone ripped a small hole in front of one of the lables, presumably to get the details. Not in bad shape, allthough the carrier was minging to say the least. Shout and a good warm water wash cleaned it up nicely. Wore it in the heat today. Not bad, a little bulkier and heavier than the newer level II stuff but wearable. The carrier is the old second chance type with the "wicking" mesh on the inside, and the poly/cotton blend outside. End of the day, for 115 bucks or so, it'll do until the new issue comes in.
